December 16th… Dr. & The Medics… (The Sitwell Tavern Derby)…
It’s been a while since I last paid a visit to the Sitwell tavern in Derby, the biker friendly pub have live bands on once or twice a week and it’s free, tonight its Christmas party time as 80’s chart toppers Dr. & The Medics are here to do a turn. Front man and founding member of Dr. & The Medics Clive Jackson, who regularly MC’d the Rock & Blues festival here in Derbyshire leads a group of young talented musicians playing a range of cover songs designed to be fun and entertaining. Co singer Melissa Weekes steals the show with her vocal talents while the rest of the bands personnel ably accompany the Dr. The chart topping ‘spirit in the sky’ is the highlight of the set witch includes sing along songs such as ‘the time warp’ a festive fun night was had by one and all, up coming gigs at the Sitwell tavern include some great bands such as New Generation Superstars, JD & The FDCs, A Thousand Enemies, Wyldchild, Ozzbest and Verbal Warning … GD.

December 3rd… Wrathchild @ Wildside (The Salutation Nottingham)…
It’s the first Saturday of the month so that must mean it’s time for Wildside, the rock club night which features live music prior to the DJ’s sets. This month it’s British glam legends Wrathchild, I personally class them as a NWOBHM band with big hair and make-up. I first saw them way back in the early 80’s and tonight’s set includes vintage songs such as ‘trash queen’, ‘nukklear rokket’ and ‘kick down the walls’ as well as some great new material form their latest CD ‘Hollywood or bust’ and ‘trick or treat’ being the pick of the crop from ‘Stakkatakktwo’. the show is going well with the tattoo festooned front man Gaz Harris (a relative new comer to the band) ably backed up by original Wrathchild band members Marc Angel (bass) Eddie Starr (drums) and the awesome Phil Wrathchild (lead guitar). After the show the guys from Wrathchild hung around most of the night enjoying the Widside club night a thoroughly cool bunch of chaps well worth checking out… GD.
